CALL OUT!

This is the call out to submit art work to be displayed in three triangular frames sited outdoors at Preston Market. It comes after a successful Crowdfund Lancashire crowdfunder via the Lancashire Culture and Sport Fund – thanks to pledges from many of you who are reading this.

The frames are a legacy for 2023’s Lancashire Photography Festival, which displayed the work of some of the world’s greatest documentary photographers in outdoor locations across the city. Several of these photography projects, including work by Jenny Lewis, Ian Beesley and Martin Parr, were displayed in bespoke frames built specially for the festival. Three of these frames have now been loaded to the Fill the Frame project – with the aim of displaying the work of local Preston artists in 2024.

This project aims to showcase the work of Preston artists and give people visiting the city of Preston some art to enjoy, at a time when there is no easily accessible, fully open, art gallery or museum in in the city.

Submitted artworks are NOT limited to photography, they can be any form of art work (I expect similar art works to those exhibited as part of Art on the Streets of Preston in 2023) – but there are strict criteria for the work to be displayed.

Eligible work must be:

  • Created by Preston-based artists
Or created by artists who can demonstrate a strong link to the city or surrounding areas, such as Bamber Bridge, Leyland, Garstang, Longridge and Penwortham.
  • Portrait shaped art
Due to the shape of the triangular frames, only portrait shaped work can be displayed.
  • Able to be printed to the dimensions of 122cm x 183cm
Art works can be a photograph, a photograph/scan of paintings, drawings etc – but you must be able to deliver a digital file big enough to be printed at 122cm x 183cm. I will do the final file changes so that it is suitable for print but if the digital file is not big enough in the first place, print will not be possible and the application will be rejected.

Any type of art is permissible – the only stipulation is that it can be printed big, ready for mounting on large 122cm x 183cm boards (which I will take care of). Possible artworks which could be displayed include photography, paintings (or prints of paintings), poetry, graphic design.

My aim is exhibit x9 art works by local Preston-based creatives in the three fames. I’m aiming to get these installed by February 2024.

Submissions will be selected by the Brewtime Collective Core team. This core group represents a range of artistic experience in Preston.

If successful

You will be required to submit your art work submission (which DOES NOT have to be formatted to 122cm x 183cm size) as a digital file (jpeg, TIFF or pdf). I will print this for you on to vinyl board and install it at the exhibition location. I will do everything we can to assist you with formatting but submitted artworks which are too small to be printed at this size will unfortunately not be exhibited.

The deadline to submit is 11.59pm on Sunday, January 07, 2024.

If successful, I will ask you to submit a print-ready file formatted to 122cm x 183cm size. Submissions which are unable to printed at this size will be unfortunately rejected. Successful work will be accepted on email or via WeTransfer (which is a free and easy-to-use web-based file transfer system).
