SPOKEN-WORD CITY

Ways poets and writers can take part in #lancsfringe

There are FOUR ways you can take part in Lancashire Fringe Festival in Preston as a poet or spoken-word performer.

These are:

Saturday, September 28 (6pm) – Preston Bus Station
Alongside side acclaimed poet Shak there is an open mic. And this is a unique opportunity to perform inside the iconic and beautiful space. I’m expecting to get some wonderful photos of these performances.

Thurs Oct 03 (7.30pm) – Vinyl Tap
As part of Anthony Briscoe’s performance (talentless Millennial Poet) at one of Preston’s most popular open mic venues, Vinyl Tap.

Sat Oct 05 (from 3pm) – various pubs
Louise Fazackerley’s Poet’s Pub Tour
Starting at Once Was Lost and taking in several independent bars, pubs and ale houses, join Louise and Dave Viney for a poetry performance with a difference. There will probably be opportunities for people on the tour to perform some of their own work in an open mic kind of way (TBC).

Tues Oct 07 (7pm) – The Ferret
The S Werd: Open Mic Spoken Word Night
Becca Jaye Sharples takes over #lancsfringe with her hugely popular spoken word open mic night.

The only admin I’ll be doing for these events (not including S Werd) is making sure that as many people get a chance to perform, so if you’re name is down for one event it will be held back for the other open mics to give other people a chance. If these other spaces are not filled, then you are welcome to perform at more than one event.

For the open mics you can email me at gazcook[@]googlemail.com with the name of the event in the subject line. There will probably be space on the day if you just turn up but this will not be guaranteed.

I hope this makes sense.

EXTRA:

Fri Oct 04 (7.30pm) – Preston Central Methodist Church
Short Story Slam hosted by John Gillmore

As well as all these open mics, there are still FOUR places left on the Short Story Slam. You need to write three 200-word shot stories – and be willing to read them out in front of an audience. Easy!

Details for all these events can be found on the front opage of this website.
