Enter now: gazcook@googlemail.com

Lancashire Fringe Festival wants twelve willing victims, sorry, writers to take part in a very exciting short story slam on Friday, October 04.

We’re looking for new writers, old writers, students and even people not from round here – basically anyone willing to read some of their own words out loud.

FICTION WRITERS: Do you struggle to get your words heard?
Not anymore.

For one night only, you have an audience. An audience willing to listen to your carefully crafted prose. They will listen sympathetically, encouragingly, attentively. They will hang off your every word. You will not have experienced anything like it. Ever. But if the other writer you’re up against is better, you’ll be cut down with one fatal full stop. There is no love lost in short story slams. As you are about to find out…
This is literal death.

The 12 writers start the first round in pairs, with one going through to round two. The six writers in round two read out a new short story, again in pairs, with the winning three progressing to the final!
Audiences love the interaction of being part of the event, without any of the pressure of performing. Writers love it that their words get heard.

Everyone is happy. Audience = memorable experience. Writers = unforgettable experience. One writer = £100 for winning.
Simple.

Competition, story-telling, performance. What more would you want out of a Friday night?

For fans of literature, drama – and cut-throat democracy where the audience has the power to make or break you.

Short story slams are the exciting cutting edge of written words. You speak, they listen – then decide your fate. This is life on the edge for literature lovers.

Just 200 words and you can be a hero.

You need nerves of steel, bravery with a pen and an unfaltering voice to do your work justice.

This short story slam is free to enter.
What is a short story slam? It’s a competition. Writers read short fiction in a head-to-head battle. The audience votes on which story they liked best. The winner goes through to the next round. There’s two rounds and then a final where the best three writers battle to be the 2024 Lancashire Fringe Festival Short Story Slam Winner.

What you need to enter: Three stories of 200 words max each. And the nerve to read them out loud.
